Description

Domaine de la Romanée-Conti’s 2010 Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Nuits Blanc is a rare glimpse into the white wine side of one of Burgundy’s most revered domaines. Crafted from Chardonnay grown in the cooler, elevated slopes behind the Côte de Nuits, this wine brings finesse, precision and a sense of place that’s unmistakably Burgundian. The 2010 vintage, widely celebrated in Burgundy for its balance and purity, adds an extra layer of refinement and aging potential.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2010 Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Nuits Blanc shows a bright, pale golden hue with subtle green reflections, signaling both freshness and maturity. The nose is precise and finely etched: citrus zest, green and yellow apple, pear skin and white flowers, layered with hints of chalk, crushed stones, almond and a gentle whisper of well‑integrated oak. On the palate, the wine is taut yet supple, with a linear, mineral-driven core that gradually fans out into notes of lemon curd, ripe orchard fruits and a touch of brioche. The acidity is vibrant and finely tuned, giving the wine lift and energy while the texture remains silky and elegant rather than opulent. At this stage, the 2010 has moved into a beautiful tertiary phase, showing nuances of hazelnut, honey and light toast, while retaining its structural backbone. Properly stored bottles still have a few years of graceful evolution ahead, though this vintage is now drinking at a particularly harmonious peak.

Production
The grapes for this wine come from the elevated slopes of the Hautes Côtes de Nuits, where cooler temperatures, thinner soils and excellent drainage naturally favor slow ripening and high acidity in Chardonnay. The terroir is typically based on limestone and marl, giving the wine its signature tension and mineral drive. Harvesting is carried out by hand, allowing careful selection of only the healthiest, optimally ripe clusters. In the cellar, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti’s philosophy of gentle, minimalist intervention prevails: careful pressing of whole bunches, fermentation in temperature-controlled conditions and élevage in high-quality French oak barrels (with restrained new oak) to preserve purity. Extended aging on fine lees adds depth and texture without overshadowing the delicate aromatic profile.

Food & Serving
This refined Chardonnay is an excellent partner for elegant, nuanced dishes rather than overly powerful ones. Think poached or grilled white fish, scallops, lobster with beurre blanc, roast chicken with herbs, veal in light cream sauce, or delicately sauced poultry and vegetable dishes. It also pairs beautifully with creamy yet subtle cheeses such as Comté, Beaufort or a young, not-too-strong goat’s cheese. Serve at around 10–12°C (50–54°F) to highlight its freshness and aromatic complexity. A brief decant of 20–30 minutes, or simply allowing the wine to open slowly in the glass, will help reveal its full spectrum of minerality and tertiary notes.

Producer
Domaine de la Romanée-Conti—often simply “DRC”—is one of the most legendary names in the world of fine wine, renowned for producing some of Burgundy’s and indeed the world’s most coveted bottles. Based in Vosne-Romanée, the domaine’s history stretches back to the 13th century, with its current incarnation shaped by generations of meticulous stewardship and an unwavering devotion to terroir. Best known for their grand cru red wines such as Romanée-Conti, La Tâche and Richebourg, DRC also crafts exceptionally rare whites that reflect the same philosophy of precision, low yields and fastidious vineyard work. The estate’s influence has helped define the benchmark for quality in the Côte d’Or, and any bottle bearing its name—whether grand cru or from the broader Bourgogne appellations—offers a rare opportunity to experience the domaine’s singular approach to Burgundy’s finest terroirs.
