Domaine Robert Jayer-Gilles Échézeaux du Dessus Grand Cru 2005 is a striking Grand Cru Burgundy from one of the most respected names in the Côte de Nuits. Sourced from the elevated “Du Dessus” parcel in Échézeaux, it combines old-vine Pinot Noir character, remarkable precision and the kind of pedigree collectors look for in top-tier Burgundy. The exceptional 2005 vintage adds further prestige, with a reputation for producing wines of depth, balance and long aging potential.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this wine shows the refined, age-worthy side of great Pinot Noir, with a deep, elegant color that hints at its concentration and maturity. The nose is layered and complex, unfolding with aromas of ripe cherries, raspberries and wild berries, followed by oriental spices, forest floor, coffee, leather and a mineral edge developed through years of bottle aging.
The palate is rich and focused, with silky texture and beautifully integrated tannins. Ripe red and dark fruit is framed by earthy, spicy nuances and a long, resonant finish that continues to reveal new details. While already expressive, it still has the structure and balance to evolve gracefully for further years in a good cellar.
Production
This Grand Cru comes from the high-placed “Du Dessus” parcel in Échézeaux, a site prized for its outstanding terroir and the character it gives Pinot Noir. Old vines contribute concentration and complexity, while the Côte de Nuits setting brings the depth, finesse and mineral drive that define great Burgundy. Harvesting and vinification are handled with a clear focus on preserving purity, terroir expression and structure for long-term development.
Food & Serving
Serve this wine with refined dishes such as roast duck, pigeon, lamb saddle, veal tenderloin or game birds, as well as mushroom-based preparations and truffle dishes. It is best served at around 16–18°C, and decanting is recommended if the bottle has just been opened, especially to help fully release its mature aromatics.
