Description
Domaine Parigot’s Pommard 1er Cru Les Epenots 2023 is a compelling expression of one of Pommard’s most respected Premier Cru sites, where the village’s signature power is shaped by a more refined, elegant touch. Made from Pinot Noir and rooted in the historic Les Epenots climat near Beaune, it offers both classic Bourgogne depth and impressive aging potential.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this 2023 vintage shows a deep ruby hue that hints at its concentration and structure. The nose opens with ripe cherry, blackcurrant, dried rose petal, and a subtle note of toasted oak.
The palate is layered and precise, combining dark berry fruit with a fleshy core, firm yet fine-grained tannins, and a distinct mineral backbone. There is real energy here, balanced by juicy fruit and a sense of tension that should allow the wine to develop beautifully over time. While approachable in its youth, it has the structure to reward several years in bottle.
Production
Les Epenots sits in the northern part of Pommard, close to the Beaune border, on soils of deep clay and limestone that contribute both richness and complexity. The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully sorted, then fermented with a proportion of whole clusters and native yeasts, using gentle extraction to preserve finesse. The wine is matured for around 14 months in French oak barrels, with only a small portion of new wood to keep the focus on fruit and terroir.
Food & Serving
This Pommard Premier Cru pairs beautifully with roast duck, beef tenderloin, game birds, lamb, and mushroom-based dishes. Serve at 16–18°C for the best balance of aroma and structure, and consider decanting for about 30–60 minutes if drinking young to help the wine open up.
Producer
Domaine Parigot is known for its precise, terroir-driven approach in Burgundy, with a style that has increasingly emphasized elegance alongside depth. The domaine has built a reputation for crafting refined wines that express their vineyard origins clearly, and this Pommard Les Epenots is a strong example of that evolution.
