Description
Domaine Moreau-Naudet Chablis 1er Cru Beauregard 2023 is a finely etched expression of Premier Cru Chablis, drawn from a tiny 0.16-hectare parcel of 25-year-old vines. Vinified entirely in tank, it showcases the domaine’s pure, crystal-clear style, with a focus on tension, freshness and precision over oak influence. As only the second vintage ever produced from this site, it offers a rare glimpse into a promising new chapter for both the estate and this south-facing Beauregard climat.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2023 Beauregard is pale lemon with green reflections, signaling its youth and vibrancy. The nose opens slowly but confidently, revealing delicate white flowers, fresh grapefruit zest and crunchy green apple, layered over a stony, almost saline undertone that is classic Chablis.
On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied yet wonderfully bright and incisive, driven by zesty citrus and green orchard fruits. There is an energetic line of acidity that gives the wine lift and definition, while the tank vinification keeps the texture sleek and precise rather than creamy. The finish is juicy, mouthwatering and focused, with a fine cut and a lingering impression of citrus peel and wet stone. With its 12.5% alcohol and vibrant structure, it will drink beautifully in its youth for its tension and clarity, but should also evolve gracefully over the next 5–8 years, gaining a little more complexity and roundness with bottle age.
Production
This Premier Cru comes from a tiny, 0.16-hectare plot in the Beauregard vineyard, a site with a steep 40% incline and a full southern exposition, helping the grapes achieve ripeness while the Chablis climate and limestone-rich soils preserve bracing freshness. The vines are around 25 years old, offering a balance of concentration and vitality. Harvest is carried out with great care—typically by hand in high-end Chablis—so that only healthy, perfectly ripe clusters make it to the winery. The wine is vinified exclusively in tank, a deliberate choice by Domaine Moreau-Naudet to preserve Beauregard’s pure fruit, floral notes and mineral backbone without the influence of oak, resulting in a clean, linear and terroir-driven style.
Food & Serving
This Chablis 1er Cru Beauregard 2023 is a natural partner for the sea: think oysters, scallop crudo, ceviche, steamed mussels or simply grilled white fish with lemon and herbs. It also shines with sushi and sashimi, fresh goat cheese, lightly dressed salads and delicately flavored poultry or vegetable dishes. Serve chilled but not icy, ideally around 10–12°C, to allow the floral and citrus notes to fully express themselves. Decanting is not essential, but pouring it into a carafe 20–30 minutes before serving can help the wine open up, especially in its first few years after release.
Producer
Domaine Moreau-Naudet is one of the most respected names in modern Chablis, known for wines that unite classical Chablisien minerality with a textural depth and precision that have attracted serious attention from sommeliers and collectors alike. Based in the heart of Chablis, the estate has steadily built a reputation for meticulous work in the vineyards and a sensitive, low-intervention approach in the cellar, always with the goal of letting each terroir speak clearly. Their Premier Cru bottlings, such as this Beauregard, are now regarded as reference points for those seeking expressive, site-driven wines from the region, and this young cuvée is quickly becoming a noteworthy addition to the domaine’s lineup.
