Description
Lucien Le Moine’s Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru Les Suchots 2005 is a highly sought-after Burgundy Pinot Noir from one of the region’s most uncompromising micro-négociants. Sourced from an exceptional Premier Cru site and crafted in tiny quantities, it combines rare intensity, precision, and the unmistakable sensuality of Vosne-Romanée.
Tasting Notes
Robert Parker described the 2005 Les Suchots as perfumed with black currant, blueberry, coriander, ginger, white truffle, musk, and citrus zest. On the palate it is wonderfully creamy and richly textured, showing pure, ripe fruit wrapped in exotic spice and a deep, mouth-coating concentration that reflects the pedigree of the site.
Despite its opulence, the wine retains impressive freshness and brightness, giving it lift and balance beneath the richness. With its combination of depth, structure, and detail, it has excellent aging potential and should continue to evolve beautifully in bottle, developing even more complexity and tertiary nuance over time.
Production
This wine comes from Vosne-Romanée’s Les Suchots Premier Cru, a revered Burgundy terroir known for producing Pinot Noir with perfume, silkiness, and layered depth. Lucien Le Moine works with carefully selected top-tier parcels, and the house is known for buying outstanding fruit from trusted growers before vinifying it in its own Beaune cellar.
The grapes are handled with a highly meticulous approach: long lees aging, late malolactic fermentation, and maturation in new classic Burgundian oak barrels. The wine is bottled by hand directly from barrel without filtration, preserving texture, purity, and the identity of the site.
Food & Serving
Best enjoyed with dishes that echo its elegance and depth, such as duck breast, roast quail, game birds, veal with mushrooms, or truffled risotto. It also pairs beautifully with aged Comté, Gruyère, or other nutty, savory cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant gently if the bottle is showing youthfulness or reduction; older bottles may only need a short aeration.
Producer
Lucien Le Moine was founded in 1999 by Rotem and Mounir Saouma, whose shared passion for Burgundy led them to create one of the region’s most distinctive small producers. Originally from Israel and Lebanon respectively, they built their reputation on an exacting philosophy, working with top Premier Cru and Grand Cru sites and crafting wines with a strong sense of terroir and precision.
The estate quickly gained attention from collectors and critics for its quality and consistency. Mounir’s background in Burgundy’s cellars, combined with the couple’s commitment to hands-on winemaking and minimal intervention, has made Lucien Le Moine one of the most respected names in modern Burgundy, known for wines of depth, intensity, and remarkable individuality.
