Description
Domaine Lucien Le Moine’s Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru 2005 is a rare and highly sought-after expression of one of Vosne-Romanée’s most revered vineyards. Crafted from Pinot Noir and sourced from exceptional Burgundy terroir, it combines finesse, depth, and aromatic complexity in a style that has made the domaine a reference point for serious collectors.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Grand Cru shows the kind of refined maturity expected from a great 2005 Burgundy. Aromas unfold in layers of ripe red cherry, wild strawberry, dried rose petals, oriental spice, and subtle savory, almost animal notes, all carried by a delicate earthy undertone.
The palate is silky yet firmly structured, with impressive concentration and precision. The limestone-rich site lends a lifted, mineral backbone that keeps the wine tense and focused, while the finish is long, detailed, and increasingly nuanced. It is drinking beautifully now, but still has the depth and balance to continue evolving gracefully for years.
Production
Romanée-Saint-Vivant is one of the most noble Grand Cru sites in Vosne-Romanée, known for producing wines of perfume, elegance, and quiet power. Lucien Le Moine works with tiny parcels from top Burgundy vineyards, aiming to preserve the natural character of each site through a hands-off approach and careful cellar work.
Food & Serving
This is a wine that deserves refined, flavorful dishes such as duck breast, roast pigeon, venison, truffle risotto, or game birds with earthy mushroom accompaniments. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for a gentle aeration if opening now, especially if the bottle has been resting for some time.
Producer
Domaine Lucien Le Moine is a relatively young but highly respected Burgundy négociant-éleveur, founded by Mounir and Rotem Saouma. The domaine has built a strong reputation for producing intensely individual, low-intervention wines from top crus across Burgundy, with a particular emphasis on precision, concentration, and site expression.
