Description
Lucien le Moine’s Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru 2017 is a beautifully judged expression of one of Burgundy’s most revered white wine sites. Crafted in tiny quantities with Lucien le Moine’s meticulous, hands-on approach, it combines Grand Cru intensity with remarkable precision and depth. The result is a wine that captures both the prestige of Chevalier-Montrachet and the uncompromising style that has made this producer a cult favorite among Burgundy lovers.
Tasting Notes
Pale gold in the glass, this wine is poised and luminous, hinting at the concentration beneath its refined exterior. The nose typically opens with layers of white flowers, citrus zest, stone fruit, crushed mineral, and subtle toasted oak, all unfolding with striking clarity and elegance.
On the palate, it is linear yet generous, with a concentrated core of ripe orchard fruit, lemon peel, saline minerality, and a finely measured oak frame. Chevalier-Montrachet’s signature tension and aristocratic structure give the wine both finesse and persistence, while the finish is long, layered, and deeply mineral. Built for aging, it should evolve beautifully over many years, gaining complexity, honeyed nuances, and even greater texture.
Production
Lucien le Moine works with some of Burgundy’s finest Grand Cru and Premier Cru parcels, and the Chevalier-Montrachet 2017 reflects the exceptional limestone-rich terroir of this legendary hillside site. The grapes are sourced from carefully selected top vineyards, harvested by hand, and brought to the Beaune cellar for vinification. True to the house style, the wine is aged on its lees in new Burgundian oak barrels, bottled without fining or filtration to preserve purity, texture, and site expression.
Food & Serving
This is a wine that deserves refined, elegant food such as lobster, langoustine, roasted scallops, turbot, or chicken with a creamy morel sauce. It also pairs beautifully with fine-aged Comté or other nutty, hard cheeses. Serve at around 10–12°C, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes if opening young to allow the aromatics and texture to fully open.
Producer
Lucien le Moine was founded in 1999 by Rotem and Mounir Saouma, whose shared passion for Burgundy led them to create one of the region’s most distinctive and respected négociant houses. Based in Beaune, the estate has built a formidable reputation for sourcing top-tier fruit from celebrated Burgundy appellations and vinifying it with exceptional care. The house is widely admired for its purity, concentration, and uncompromising quality, and has earned a devoted following among collectors and critics alike.
