Description
Lucien le Moine’s Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru 2008 is a deeply expressive Burgundy from one of the region’s most respected micro-négociants. Crafted in tiny quantities, it combines Grand Cru pedigree with Lucien le Moine’s signature precision, intensity, and hands-off philosophy. This is a wine that speaks clearly of one of Gevrey-Chambertin’s most historic and coveted sites.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a refined, almost regal depth, with aromas that unfold from black licorice, rose petal, peat, and dark berries into more layered notes of beef blood, crushed stone, and subtle spice. The nose is complex and evolving, with a sense of mineral drive beneath the darker fruit.
On the palate, it is seamless and satin-textured, with melting tannins and vintage-typical acidity that feels energized rather than sharp. The finish is long and resonant, carrying both delicacy and structure. While already compelling, it has the concentration and balance to evolve beautifully over the next 20 years or more.
Production
Lucien le Moine sources only top-tier fruit from selected growers, and for this wine the grapes come from the legendary Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru in Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits, where limestone-rich soils and an outstanding exposure help Pinot Noir achieve both finesse and power. The fruit is harvested with great care and vinified in Beaune using the estate’s hallmark approach: maturation on the lees in new Burgundian oak, late malolactic fermentation, and bottling directly from barrel without filtration.
Food & Serving
This is a superb match for fine red meat dishes such as beef tenderloin, côte de boeuf, venison, or duck breast, as well as earthy preparations with mushrooms, truffle, or game birds. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant gently for 1–2 hours if drinking young; older bottles may only need a brief aeration.
Producer
Lucien le Moine was founded in 1999 by Rotem and Mounir Saouma, whose shared passion for Burgundy led them to create one of the region’s most distinctive producers. Based in Beaune, they built a reputation for uncompromising quality by working with selected 1er Cru and Grand Cru parcels and handling élevage themselves with great precision. Their wines have earned wide acclaim for purity, depth, and individuality, making Lucien le Moine a reference name for serious Burgundy lovers.
