Domaine Leflaive’s Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru 2015 is a benchmark white Burgundy, combining precision, depth, and striking finesse. Sourced from one of the most prestigious Grand Cru sites in Bourgogne, this Chardonnay captures the lifted mineral character and luminous elegance that have made Chevalier-Montrachet legendary among collectors.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a brilliant golden hue with remarkable clarity. The bouquet unfolds in layers of white flowers, lemon zest, green apple, and ripe pear, with refined nuances of toasted almond, butter, and vanilla from careful oak aging, plus a subtle smoky minerality. On the palate, it is intensely structured and multi-dimensional, opening with vibrant citrus before moving into honey, hazelnut, and brioche. The texture is silky yet supported by electric acidity, finishing with chalky mineral purity and exceptional length. This is a wine built for long aging and should continue evolving beautifully for decades, gaining richer honeyed and nutty complexity.
Production
Chevalier-Montrachet sits high on the slope above Bâtard-Montrachet and Montrachet, a position that contributes to its tension, freshness, and pronounced mineral drive. Domaine Leflaive’s meticulous vineyard work and careful harvesting help preserve the purity of the fruit, while measured oak élevage adds subtle structure and complexity without overwhelming the terroir expression.
Food & Serving
An outstanding match for delicate luxury dishes such as lobster, scallops, turbot, or a creamy truffle risotto. Serve chilled, ideally around 12°C, to allow the wine’s aromatics and texture to shine. Decanting is recommended when young to open up its layered bouquet, though older bottles are best handled gently and served without extended aeration.
Producer
Domaine Leflaive is one of Burgundy’s most revered white wine estates, with a long-standing reputation for producing some of the finest Chardonnay in the world. Based in Puligny-Montrachet, the domaine has played a defining role in elevating the status of biodynamic viticulture in the region and is widely celebrated for wines of purity, precision, and extraordinary aging potential.
