Domaine Leflaive Bourgogne Blanc 2023 offers an elegant introduction to one of Burgundy’s most respected domaines. Made from Chardonnay grown just beyond the region’s celebrated village appellations, it combines Leflaive’s hallmark precision and finesse with bright fruit, subtle oak and a distinctly mineral finish. It is a polished regional Burgundy that delivers remarkable character at its level.
Tasting Notes
Pale and bright in the glass, this Bourgogne Blanc opens with fresh aromas of green apple, lemon and white flowers, followed by delicate notes of nuts, vanilla and butter from restrained oak influence. The palate is lively and well balanced, combining crisp acidity with a lightly creamy texture. Flavours of citrus, stone fruit and a touch of honey lead into a clean, chalky finish marked by subtle saline minerality.
Approachable in its youth, the 2023 vintage is particularly appealing for its freshness and clarity. It can also develop added breadth and nuance over approximately three to five years when carefully stored.
Production
The Chardonnay is sourced from vineyards in Burgundy located outside the region’s more prestigious village appellations, where the soils and cool continental climate help preserve freshness and mineral character. The wine is made with Domaine Leflaive’s meticulous attention to detail, including gentle vinification and discreet maturation in oak. This approach adds texture and subtle notes of vanilla and butter while allowing the pure fruit and natural vitality of the wine to remain at the forefront.
Food & Serving
Serve lightly chilled at around 10–12°C. Its bright acidity and subtle creaminess make it an excellent match for shellfish, oysters, grilled fish, seafood pasta and roast chicken, while its clean mineral profile also works beautifully with a classic Caesar salad. Decanting is not essential, though giving the wine 15–20 minutes in the glass can allow its floral and lightly nutty aromas to emerge.
Producer
Domaine Leflaive is one of Burgundy’s most renowned names, with a long-standing reputation for producing precise, age-worthy Chardonnay from Puligny-Montrachet and the surrounding Côte de Beaune. The domaine has played an important role in elevating the quality and international standing of white Burgundy, with a philosophy centred on careful vineyard work and expressive, terroir-driven wines. Even at its Bourgogne Blanc level, the estate’s signature elegance, balance and precision are clearly evident.
