Domaine Leflaive Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2018 is one of Burgundy’s most compelling white wines, combining power, precision, and a remarkable sense of finesse. Sourced from one of the region’s most prestigious Grand Cru sites, nestled between Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet and Le Montrachet, it reflects both the grandeur of the appellation and the meticulous philosophy of Domaine Leflaive. Crafted from Chardonnay and rooted in a long Burgundian tradition, it stands as a benchmark for collectors seeking world-class white wine.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this wine shows a brilliant golden hue that hints at its depth and concentration. The nose is layered and expressive, offering citrus, baked apple, toasted nuts, honey, and a clear mineral edge that brings lift and definition.
On the palate, it is intense and tightly structured, with a creamy texture balanced by fresh acidity and impressive length. Notes of butter, vanilla, and wet stone linger on the finish, and its balance of richness and energy gives it outstanding aging potential over many years.
Production
This Grand Cru comes from one of the most revered white wine terroirs in Bourgogne, where the limestone-rich soils and prime exposure help Chardonnay achieve exceptional complexity and concentration. Domaine Leflaive follows biodynamic principles, with natural fermentation and careful élevage in French oak barrels, including a measured proportion of new oak to add depth without masking the wine’s inherent elegance.
Food & Serving
Best enjoyed with refined dishes such as lobster, foie gras, truffle-based preparations, and mature cheeses. Serve at around 10–12°C to allow its complexity to show clearly, and consider decanting briefly if young so the aromatics can open up and the wine’s texture can unfold more fully.
Producer
Domaine Leflaive is one of Burgundy’s most celebrated white wine estates, with a reputation built on precision, purity, and a deep respect for terroir. Based in Puligny-Montrachet, the domaine has become a reference point for biodynamic viticulture in the region and is widely admired for producing some of the world’s most sought-after Chardonnay wines, with numerous critical accolades over the years.
