Domaine la Soumade’s Rasteau Cuvée Fleur de Confiance 2019 Magnum is a beautifully expressive Rhône red made from very old vines, some up to 100 years of age, and crafted with the kind of low yields and meticulous vineyard care that immediately set it apart. Winemaker Frédéric Roméro has helped push Rasteau to a new level of quality, and this cuvée captures that progress with depth, character, and unmistakable old-world charm.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine appears deeply colored, almost black at the core, hinting at its concentration and intensity. The nose is powerful and captivating, opening with blackcurrant, dark plum, black pepper, lavender, violet, and earthy herbal notes that evoke a sun-warmed southern French landscape. The palate reflects the aromatics with remarkable fidelity: ripe dark fruit, spice, wild herbs, and a rustic, earthy edge all come together in a wine that feels both bold and authentic. It has the structure and concentration to age gracefully for several more years, gaining even more complexity and nuance over time.

Production
The fruit comes from old-vine parcels in Rasteau, where the combination of mature vines, careful hand harvesting, and exceptionally low yields of around 25 hectoliters per hectare ensures impressive concentration. All grapes are hand-picked and rigorously sorted before vinification. The wine is then aged for 18 months in cement tanks and traditional 4,000-liter foudres, a combination that preserves freshness while adding texture and quiet complexity.

Food & Serving
This is a natural match for richly flavored dishes such as roast lamb, grilled beef, braised game, duck confit, or hearty Provençal stews. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if drinking young, as this can help the wine open up and show its full aromatic range.
