Description
Domaine La Patelle Chardonnay Le Kiosque 2023 is a beautifully expressive white from the distinctive marl and clay soils surrounding Arbois in France’s Jura region. Crafted from multiple small Chardonnay parcels and raised in a mix of concrete, amphora, barrique and tonneau, it delivers remarkable texture and complexity without losing freshness. This cuvée captures the spirit of modern Jura Chardonnay: rooted in tradition, but vinified with precision and an eye for finesse.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Le Kiosque 2023 shows a pale to medium lemon hue with a gentle golden tint, hinting at its richness and time on lees. The nose opens with ripe stone fruits—white peach, apricot and yellow plum—layered with subtle notes of toasted nuts, dried flowers and a delicate oxidative nuance that firmly anchors it in Jura.
On the palate, the wine is supremely textural and enveloping, with a silky, almost waxy mouthfeel that reflects its varied élevage. Flavors of ripe stone fruit are joined by hints of almond, hazelnut skin and a faint saline edge, adding both depth and savouriness. A line of vibrant, well-judged acidity sweeps through the mid-palate, keeping the wine lifted and refreshing, and drawing the flavors into a persistent, mineral-tinged finish. Enjoyable now for its open, generous character, it also has the structure and balance to evolve gracefully over the next 3–5 years, gaining further complexity and nuttiness.
Production
Domaine La Patelle sources Chardonnay for Le Kiosque from several plots around Arbois, where classic Jurassic marl and clay soils lend natural power, texture and a subtle earth-driven minerality to the wine. Grapes are typically harvested by hand to allow for careful selection of healthy, ripe bunches and to protect the fruit on its way to the cellar. Vinification is deliberately diverse: individual parcels are fermented and raised separately in concrete tanks, amphorae, traditional barriques and larger tonneaux. This mix of vessels brings together purity of fruit, gentle micro-oxidation and textural complexity. After maturation, the wines are thoughtfully blended to create a harmonious final cuvée that balances Jura’s characteristic nuttiness with fresh, precise Chardonnay fruit.
Food & Serving
Le Kiosque 2023 is a versatile food wine that shines with rich seafood dishes such as seared scallops, lobster with butter and herbs, or grilled turbot. It pairs equally well with roast chicken, pork tenderloin with mustard sauce, creamy risottos, and Jura’s local cheeses like Comté or Morbier, where the wine’s nutty notes find a natural echo. Serve at 10–12°C (50–54°F) to showcase both its aromatic detail and textural depth. A brief decant of 20–30 minutes is recommended, especially in its youth, to allow the wine to fully open and knit together in the glass.
