Description
Domaine Joseph Colin Puligny-Montrachet Le Trézin 2019 is a finely etched white Burgundy that captures the lift and precision of this high-altitude lieu-dit. Crafted from Chardonnay grown in the northern reaches of Puligny, it offers a beautiful balance of energy, minerality and understated richness. This is a polished, finely boned expression of Puligny that demonstrates why Le Trézin has become a favorite among Burgundy insiders.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2019 Puligny-Montrachet Le Trézin shows a pale to medium lemon color with green reflections, hinting at both freshness and youth. The nose opens delicately with bright notes of fresh lemon and crystallized citrus peel, followed by cool herbal nuances of mint, white flowers and a hint of blanched almond.
On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied yet silk-textured, with a sleek, linear profile. Lively acidity carries flavors of lemon zest, grapefruit pith, crushed stone and subtle pastry notes, all wrapped in a gentle, chalky minerality that extends through the long, precise finish. The overall impression is one of elegance and tension rather than opulence. This vintage is already approachable, but it has the structure and acidity to evolve beautifully over the next 6–8 years, gaining in complexity and nuance.
Production
Le Trézin is a cool, higher-slope site in the northern part of Puligny-Montrachet, where thin limestone soils and good altitude lend extra tension and minerality to the Chardonnay. Vines here benefit from good drainage and a slightly breezier, cooler exposition, which helps preserve acidity and aromatic lift. Grapes are typically harvested by hand at optimal ripeness to retain freshness and purity. In the cellar, Joseph Colin works with a light touch: gentle pressing of whole clusters, fermentation in oak (with a sensitive use of new barrels) and élevage on fine lees to build texture without masking the site’s character. The result is a wine that clearly transmits its terroir, with clarity and finesse.
Food & Serving
This Puligny-Montrachet is superb with fine, delicately prepared dishes: think butter-poached lobster or langoustine, scallops with a light citrus beurre blanc, grilled turbot, or roast chicken with morel cream sauce. It also marries beautifully with veal blanquette, seared white fish, or mild, creamy cheeses such as Comté, Beaufort or aged goat cheese. Serve at 10–12°C (50–54°F) to highlight the aromatics while keeping the structure taut. A short decant of 20–30 minutes, or simply opening the bottle in advance, will help the wine unfold its floral and mineral nuances.
Producer
Domaine Joseph Colin is one of the rising stars of the Côte de Beaune, rooted in a long lineage of vignerons in the Colin family of Saint-Aubin and Puligny-Montrachet. After gaining experience working alongside his family at Domaine Marc Colin, Joseph founded his own estate, focusing on small, high-quality parcels across Saint-Aubin, Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet. His style is marked by precision, purity and a clear expression of terroir, placing him among the most closely watched new generation producers in Burgundy. Wines like his Puligny-Montrachet Le Trézin have helped cement the domaine’s reputation for crafting finely detailed, mineral-driven whites that stand out even in this prestigious region.
