Description

Domaine Jean Grivot Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts 2005 comes from one of the most admired Premier Cru sites in Vosne-Romanée, a hillside climat known for its limestone-and-marl soils, height, and superb exposure. It captures the classic Grivot style: refined, terroir-driven, and beautifully balanced, with the depth and mineral precision that have made Les Beaux Monts such a benchmark vineyard.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Pinot Noir offers a deeply expressive and graceful profile, often showing a vibrant ruby hue with the beginnings of graceful evolution. The bouquet is layered with red cherry, raspberry, and strawberry, lifted by violet and rose petal notes, then framed by earthy, mineral accents and subtle spice from oak aging. On the palate, the wine combines ripe, juicy fruit with a firm, elegant frame of fresh acidity and fine-grained tannins. It feels more vertical than many Vosne-Romanée Premier Crus, finishing with length, tension, and a distinct mineral edge. The 2005 vintage has the structure to age well, and this wine can continue developing for years, gaining complexity with notes of forest floor, dried flowers, and savory spice.

Production
Les Beaux Monts is a large Premier Cru climat of around 28 hectares, with parcels stretching across both upper and lower slopes, creating subtle differences in style and concentration. Domaine Jean Grivot works from these varied terroirs to craft a wine that reflects the site’s limestone-rich soils, natural energy, and fine aromatic character. In the cellar, the wine is typically fully destemmed, fermented with native yeasts, and aged for around 15 months in French oak, with a proportion of new barrels to add structure and polish without overwhelming the fruit.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with dishes that match its finesse and depth, such as duck breast, roasted quail, pigeon, mushroom risotto, or lamb with herbs. Serve it at around 15–17°C, and consider decanting for about 30–60 minutes if opening it young or if you want to give the aromas more room to unfold.

Producer
Domaine Jean Grivot is one of Vosne-Romanée’s respected family domaines, long associated with precise, terroir-focused Burgundy. The estate has built a strong reputation for producing structured yet elegant wines from some of the Côte de Nuits’ finest sites, and it is especially admired for its balance of power, purity, and aging potential. Over the years, the domaine has earned recognition as a reliable name for collectors seeking classic, site-expressive Burgundy.
