Description

Domaine Jean Grivot Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2006 is a deeply terroir-driven expression of one of Burgundy’s most iconic grand cru vineyards. Made from Pinot Noir in the historic Clos de Vougeot, it combines power, precision, and aromatic depth in a style that reflects both the vineyard’s prestige and the Grivot family’s meticulous approach.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Grand Cru shows a poised, layered character with ripe red fruit at its core. Expect aromas of wild berries, cherry, and raspberry, lifted by floral notes, herbs, subtle spice, and earthy nuances of forest floor and mineral tension. On the palate it is structured and concentrated yet refined, with vibrant acidity, a supple but firm tannic frame, and well-integrated oak notes of vanilla, toast, and warm spice. The wine has excellent aging potential; while it can be enjoyed for its energy now, it is built to evolve gracefully over many years, developing greater complexity, silkier texture, and tertiary notes with time.

Production
The grapes come from old, densely planted Pinot Noir parcels in Clos de Vougeot, where the soils form a complex mosaic of limestone, clay, and alluvial deposits. Jean Grivot’s 1.86 hectares lie in a contiguous mid-slope section of the vineyard, a position that helps balance ripeness, structure, and aromatic finesse. Harvesting is typically done by hand, and vinification is carried out with an emphasis on preserving purity of fruit, site expression, and fine tannin structure, followed by élevage in oak barrels, including a notable proportion of new oak.

Food & Serving
This is a wine that pairs beautifully with refined, savory dishes such as roast duck, pheasant, lamb, beef fillet, game birds, or mushroom-based preparations. Serve at around 16-18°C, and consider decanting for 1-2 hours if drinking relatively young to help the wine open up and show its full aromatic range.

Producer
Domaine Jean Grivot is a respected family estate in Vosne-Romanée with a long-standing reputation for producing wines of clarity, structure, and authentic Burgundian character. Under the Grivot family’s stewardship, the domaine has become especially well regarded for its parcels in top Côte de Nuits vineyards, and its wines are frequently praised for their precision, balance, and aging potential.
