Description

Domaine Hubert Lamy Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Clos du Meix Blanc 2021 is a vibrant, finely chiseled white Burgundy that showcases just how exciting Saint-Aubin has become for lovers of top-flight Chardonnay. Sourced from a prized enclosed vineyard (“clos”) right in the heart of the village, this wine delivers precision, energy and impeccable detail rather than sheer richness. It’s the kind of bottle that appeals to drinkers who value cut, tension and mineral drive in their white Burgundy as much as fruit and texture.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2021 Clos du Meix Blanc is pale lemon with hints of green at the rim, signaling its youth and tension. The nose opens with delicate white flowers and a whisper of sea breeze, followed by notes of pear, white peach, and a gentle iodized minerality, all framed by subtle tones of toasted nuts from its élevage. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, sleek and finely textured, with a bright, electric acidity that keeps everything wonderfully focused. Juicy orchard fruits and stone fruits are layered over a core of chalky minerality, while light nutty nuances and a hint of creaminess add complexity without weighing the wine down. The finish is long, mouthwatering and precise, making it especially appealing for those who prefer tension and cut in their white Burgundy rather than overt opulence. Enjoyable now with a brief aeration, it should evolve beautifully over the next 5–8 years, gaining more complexity and integration while retaining its freshness.

Production
Clos du Meix is a walled 1er Cru parcel in Saint-Aubin with classic Burgundian limestone and clay soils, delivering both minerality and finesse. The vines, predominantly Chardonnay, are cultivated with great care—typically hand-tended and hand-harvested—to ensure only optimally ripe, healthy fruit reaches the cellar. At Domaine Hubert Lamy, vinification is traditional yet precise: the grapes are gently pressed, and the must is fermented with native yeasts in Burgundian oak barrels, with a restrained use of new wood to preserve purity and terroir expression. The wine then ages on its lees, adding texture and complexity while maintaining the bright, racy profile that defines the 2021 vintage.

Food & Serving
This Saint-Aubin 1er Cru is a natural partner for refined, seafood-driven cuisine: think oysters, scallops, turbot, sole meunière, or simply grilled white fish with lemon and herbs. It also pairs beautifully with roast chicken, veal in a light cream sauce, vegetable risottos, and subtly nutty cheeses like Comté or aged Gruyère. Serve at 10–12°C to highlight its precision and aromatic detail. A short decant of 20–30 minutes, or simply opening the bottle a bit in advance, will help the wine unfurl its floral and mineral nuances without diminishing its vibrant edge.

Producer
Domaine Hubert Lamy is one of the benchmark estates of Saint-Aubin and a reference point for cool-climate, terroir-driven white Burgundy. The Lamy family has been growing vines in the region since the 17th century, but it was Hubert Lamy, and more recently his son Olivier, who elevated the domaine to its current status, focusing intensely on vineyard work, lower yields and meticulous craftsmanship in the cellar. Today, the domaine is widely respected for turning what was once an under-the-radar village into a source of some of Burgundy’s most thrilling, mineral-driven Chardonnays. Their wines, especially from top sites like Clos du Meix, are sought after by collectors and sommeliers for their precision, ageworthiness and transparent expression of site.
