Domaine Henri Clerc Saint-Romain 'Vieilles Vignes' 2022 is a beautifully precise Burgundy Chardonnay that offers remarkable value for money. From one of the highest-altitude vineyard areas in Burgundy, it combines freshness, minerality, and the depth that comes from older vines, giving it a profile that feels both classic and distinctive.

Tasting Notes
Pale straw in the glass, it opens with a bright, flinty bouquet layered with citrus, ripe pear, white flowers, and a hint of jasmine. There is a Chablis-like clarity to the aromatics, but with a touch more roundness and generosity. On the palate, the wine is clean, fresh, and linear, with crisp acidity carrying flavors of lemon peel, orchard fruit, and stony minerality. The dry finish is long and mouthwatering, and while it is already very appealing now, it should continue to hold and develop nicely over the next few years.

Production
Saint-Romain sits high in the Côte de Beaune, where the elevated vineyards and chalk-rich soils create naturally fresh, mineral-driven wines. For this cuvée, grapes from older vines were selected to add concentration and complexity, while preserving the vibrant character of the appellation. Winemaking is geared toward precision and purity, allowing the site’s flinty, citrus-driven profile to remain at the forefront.

Food & Serving
This is a versatile Chardonnay for seafood, shellfish, roast poultry, creamy risottos, and goat’s cheese. Serve chilled at around 10–12°C to showcase its freshness and mineral drive. Decanting is not necessary, though a short time in the glass will help the wine open up beautifully.
