Description
Domaine H Cote de Brouilly 2019 is an elegant, organically farmed Gamay from the famed slopes of Mont de Brouilly in Beaujolais, within greater Bourgogne. This cuvée captures the tension between finesse and energy that has made Côte de Brouilly one of the region’s most sought-after crus. Expect a vivid, terroir-driven red that balances pure fruit with a refined, mineral backbone.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Domaine H Cote de Brouilly 2019 shows a bright, translucent ruby core with garnet reflections toward the rim. The nose opens with lifted aromas of wild red berries, crushed raspberries and cherries, followed by floral notes of violets and peonies, plus hints of fresh herbs, cracked pepper and a subtle stony minerality.
On the palate, this is a precise and vibrant expression of Gamay: juicy redcurrant, cherry and pomegranate are wrapped in fine, chalky tannins and a lively, mouthwatering acidity. There is a clear sense of the hillside terroir in the form of a cool, rocky freshness and a long, focused finish with notes of spice and stone. While already approachable, the structure and balance suggest this 2019 has the potential to evolve beautifully over the next 5–8 years, gaining more complexity and silky texture with time in bottle.
Production
Planted on the southern slopes of Mont de Brouilly, the vines of Domaine H benefit from a mix of stony, well-drained soils and a sun-drenched exposure overlooking the Beaujolais hills and the Saône valley. The estate is family-run and organically farmed, with a focus on healthy, living soils and careful vineyard work that leaves the land more sustainable for future generations. Harvest is typically carried out by hand to ensure only the best Gamay grapes make it into the cellar. Vinification follows a gentle, low-intervention approach in the traditional Beaujolais spirit, allowing the purity of fruit and the character of the Côte de Brouilly terroir to shine through, with minimal manipulation and a clear respect for the raw material.
Food & Serving
This Côte de Brouilly is wonderfully versatile at the table, pairing beautifully with charcuterie, terrines, grilled poultry, roast chicken, pork loin, veal, and lighter cuts of lamb. It also complements mushroom dishes, pasta with earthy sauces, and semi-soft cheeses such as Tomme or mild goat’s cheese. Serve slightly cool, ideally at 14–16°C, to highlight its freshness and aromatic precision. A brief decant of 20–30 minutes can help the wine open up its floral and mineral nuances, especially in its youth.
Producer
Domaine H is a family-owned, Danish-owned organic estate situated on the southern slopes of Mont de Brouilly, looking out over the rolling Beaujolais hills and the flatter Saône valley below. From the beginning, the philosophy has centered on crafting quality wines from healthy vines, with vineyard practices designed to improve soil life and leave the land in better condition for future generations. As part of the new wave of conscientious producers in Beaujolais, Domaine H contributes to the growing recognition of the region as a serious source of terroir-driven, ageworthy wines. Their commitment to organic farming and thoughtful, artisanal winemaking has made them a noteworthy name to follow in Côte de Brouilly.
