Description
Domaine Guillemard-Clerc Puligny-Montrachet “Les Enseignières” 2023 is a standout Chardonnay from one of Puligny’s most prized lieu-dits, situated just below the legendary Grand Cru vineyards of Bâtard- and Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet. With the same coveted soils and exposure as its famous neighbours, it offers remarkable precision, purity, and a level of finesse that often pushes well beyond village-level expectations.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a bright pale-gold colour with a youthful green glint. The nose is refined and expressive, opening with lemon zest, green apple, white flowers, and a subtle hint of toasted almond.
The palate is taut and mineral-driven, with a creamy mid-palate, crisp acidity, and a long, chalky finish. It has the classic Puligny freshness, balanced by enough texture and depth to make it immediately appealing while also giving it the structure to evolve gracefully over the next 5–8 years.
Production
Les Enseignières sits on terroir closely aligned with some of Puligny-Montrachet’s most celebrated vineyards, benefiting from excellent exposure and limestone-rich soils that naturally favour elegance and tension. The 2023 vintage delivered ideal Chardonnay conditions, with sun and warmth preserving freshness and natural acidity. The grapes were hand-harvested, gently pressed, then fermented in French oak barrels, of which around 20–25% were new, followed by approximately 10 months’ ageing on the lees with light bâtonnage to build texture and complexity.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with dishes that echo its elegance and precision, such as grilled sea bass, scallops, lobster, roast chicken with herbs, or creamy risotto with spring vegetables. Serve chilled at around 10–12°C, and consider a short decant of 15–20 minutes if you’d like to open up its aromatic detail.
