Description

Domaine Ghislaine Barthod’s Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras 1er Cru 2006 is a refined example of Burgundy Pinot Noir, drawn from one of Chambolle-Musigny’s most admired premier cru sites. The Les Cras vineyard brings together finesse, minerality, and depth, while the cooler 2006 vintage adds freshness, precision, and notable aging potential.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows the kind of translucent ruby hue typical of high-quality Pinot Noir, with a graceful, polished appearance. The nose is inviting and layered, offering red cherry, redcurrant, violet, and a subtle spice note, all lifted by a distinct mineral edge from the vineyard’s limestone soils. On the palate, the wine is elegant and finely structured, with bright acidity, silky tannins, and a pure core of red fruit. The texture is supple yet persistent, finishing long and savory with a clear sense of place. While already enjoyable, the wine should continue to gain complexity over the next 10–15 years, developing more earthy, truffled, and tertiary nuances with age.

Production
The Les Cras premier cru vineyard in Chambolle-Musigny is prized for its limestone-rich soils and excellent exposure, both of which help produce Pinot Noir with perfume, precision, and refined structure. The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully sorted before fermentation with native yeasts, a traditional Burgundian approach that helps preserve vineyard character and aromatic detail. The wine is then matured in French oak barrels, including a portion of new oak, adding texture and subtle complexity without overshadowing the wine’s delicacy.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with dishes that echo its elegance, such as roast duck, quail, veal, mushroom risotto, or poultry with a light cream sauce. It is best served slightly cool, around 16–18°C, and can be given some time in a decanter if young or recently opened, though older bottles should be handled more gently and decanted only if needed to remove sediment.

Producer
Domaine Ghislaine Barthod is a highly respected family estate in Chambolle-Musigny, known for producing wines of remarkable purity, precision, and site expression. Under Ghislaine Barthod’s stewardship, the domaine has earned a strong reputation as one of the benchmark producers in the village, with wines that consistently reflect the elegance and complexity of top Burgundy terroir.
