Description

Domaine François Bertheau’s 2023 Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru brings together fruit from three separate parcels, offering a more substantial expression of the appellation than the domaine’s Chambolle-Musigny village wine. Its combination of generous red-fruit charm and underlying structure makes it an appealing introduction to the Premier Cru level of this celebrated Côte de Nuits village.

Tasting Notes
The wine shows a fragrant bouquet of sweet red berries, cassis and peony, with a hint of dark chocolate. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, with a juicy core of fruit and a meatier, more structured feel than the domaine’s Chambolle-Musigny AOC. The finish is notably persistent. No specific drinking window is provided. Its fruit and structure suggest it can be enjoyed young or given time in the cellar to develop further.

Production
The wine is assembled from grapes grown across three parcels. At the domaine, the grapes are destemmed and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks over two to three weeks, followed by élevage with new oak rarely exceeding 10%. Details of the individual parcels’ terroir and harvesting methods are not available.

Food & Serving
Try it with roast duck, game birds, mushroom dishes or simply prepared beef, where its red-fruit character and structure can complement the savoury flavours. Serve lightly cool, around 15–16°C. A short decant can help open the wine, particularly if serving it young.

Producer
Domaine François Bertheau is based in Chambolle-Musigny, in the heart of the Côte de Nuits. Winemaker François Bertheau is described as taking a meticulous, detail-focused approach in the cellar, with restrained use of new oak. The domaine’s wines are regarded by the source as among the Côte de Nuits’ leading examples; further details of its history and awards were not provided.

Beautiful pinot with that dancing liveliness that makes it so easy to fall for classic Burgundy. In Bertheau's hands, Chambolle delivers a red-juicy expression with hints of roses, allspice, and a light cedar note. The tannins are definitely there, but silky smooth. Super serious and playful at the same time
