Description
Domaine Etienne Sauzet Puligny-Montrachet Champ Canet 1er Cru 2019 is a highly focused and structured expression of one of Puligny’s most respected premier cru sites. It combines the ripeness of the 2019 vintage with the site’s trademark mineral precision, making it a compelling white Burgundy with both depth and tension.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this is a wine of quiet confidence, opening with a restrained bouquet that expands beautifully with air. Aromas of ripe pear, white flowers, citrus oil, and subtle spice are lifted by a refined reductive edge that adds complexity and detail.
The palate is dense yet vibrant, offering layers of white fruit, apple, pear, and fresh citrus, with nuances of beeswax, blossom, and gentle spice. A firm mineral core drives the wine’s vertical structure, while the precise, integrated acidity keeps everything poised and energetic. The finish is long, cool, and saline, marked by citrus zest, stone, and a lingering sense of freshness. It has strong aging potential and should develop additional depth and nuance over the next decade or more.
Production
Made from Chardonnay in Puligny-Montrachet’s Champ Canet 1er Cru vineyard in Burgundy, this wine reflects a terroir known for limestone-driven minerality and elegance. The combination of ripe 2019 fruit and the vineyard’s naturally taut structure gives the wine its balance of generosity and precision, with vinification aimed at preserving clarity, texture, and site expression.
Food & Serving
An excellent match for lobster, scallops, turbot, roast chicken with cream sauce, or fine poultry dishes with mushrooms and herbs. Serve at around 10–12°C, and decant briefly if young to help the wine open and reveal its aromatic complexity.
