Description

Domaine Etienne Sauzet Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2016 is a benchmark white Burgundy from one of the Côte de Beaune’s most prized Grand Cru sites. Made from Chardonnay in the heart of Bâtard-Montrachet, it combines power, precision, and remarkable finesse, reflecting the historic reputation of this legendary vineyard.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep golden colour that hints at both concentration and maturity. The nose is layered and expressive, offering tropical fruit, bright citrus, and subtle toasted notes that add depth and sophistication. On the palate, the wine is rich and expansive, with flavours of pineapple, mango, and lemon framed by a refined mineral streak and vibrant acidity. The result is a beautifully structured wine with impressive length and significant aging potential, capable of developing additional complexity over many years.

Production
The grapes come from the prestigious Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru vineyard in Burgundy, a terroir known for producing some of the world’s most complete and opulent Chardonnay wines. The vineyard’s chalky, limestone-rich soils and excellent exposure contribute to the wine’s balance of richness and tension. Vinification details are not provided, but the final style suggests careful handling to preserve purity, structure, and the site’s distinct mineral character.

Food & Serving
This is an outstanding match for luxurious dishes such as lobster, scallops, roasted turbot, or poultry in a creamy sauce, as well as mature hard cheeses. Serve at around 12–14°C, and decanting is recommended if the wine is still very youthful, to allow its aromatics and texture to fully open.

Producer
Domaine Etienne Sauzet is one of Burgundy’s most respected names, especially renowned for its precise and age-worthy white wines from Puligny-Montrachet and neighbouring grand cru sites. The estate has built a strong reputation for producing Chardonnay with clarity, balance, and terroir expression, and is widely regarded as a reference point for top white Burgundy.
