Domaine Dugat-Py, Gevrey-Chambertin Coeur de Roy Très V.V., 2022

Domaine Dugat-Py’s Gevrey-Chambertin Coeur de Roy Très Vieilles Vignes 2022 is a striking expression of one of Burgundy’s most revered villages, drawn from exceptionally old Pinot Noir vines in three prized parcels. Once known for a мощer, more robust style, the domaine has evolved toward greater finesse and transparency, and this cuvée captures that shift beautifully while still delivering the depth Gevrey-Chambertin is famous for.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows the dark, concentrated color typical of very old-vine Pinot Noir, with an elegance that hints at the domaine’s more refined new direction. The nose is layered and vibrant, offering ripe red and black cherry, wild berry fruit, crushed flowers, spice, and subtle earthy and smoky nuances from careful oak aging. On the palate, the wine combines impressive structure with freshness and lift. There is clear concentration from vines aged between 50 and 115 years, but the texture feels more polished and less forceful than in earlier Dugat-Py vintages, with fine tannins, bright energy, and a long, mineral-driven finish. It is already approachable now, yet it has the backbone to develop beautifully over the next 10 years or more.

Production
The wine is sourced from three old-vine parcels in Gevrey-Chambertin—Les Epointures, Combes du Dessus, and Les Marchais—where mature vines naturally yield small, concentrated berries. The 2022 vintage was crafted with a modernized approach at Domaine Dugat-Py: around two-thirds of the grapes were fermented as whole clusters, and maturation took place with 40% new oak, helping preserve aromatic purity and finesse while still adding subtle structure and complexity.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for roasted duck, quail, pigeon, lamb, or game birds, as well as mushroom-based dishes and aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decanting for 30–60 minutes is recommended if drinking young to help the wine open fully and show its aromatic depth.
