Domaine du Pegau Da Capo 2016 Magnum

Domaine du Pegau Da Capo 2016 is the estate’s rare top cuvée, released only in exceptional vintages and now widely regarded as one of the great wines of the Rhône. Made with an almost obsessive selection process and a famously minimal-intervention approach, it has earned comparisons with the region’s most iconic reds and is a true collector’s bottle, here presented in magnum format and original wooden case.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Da Capo 2016 shows an almost opaque, inky colour with a violet sheen at the rim. The nose is strikingly layered and expansive, unfolding with dark plum, blackberry and crème de cassis, then moving into cracked black pepper, liquorice, smoked meat, truffle, violets and warm Provençal herbs. The palate is deeply concentrated yet remarkably composed, with powerful dark fruit, spice and savoury complexity carried by a precise sense of balance. The finish is exceptionally long and persistent, with the structure and depth to reward long cellaring; this is a wine built for many years of development.

Production
Da Capo is produced only in outstanding years from carefully selected grapes grown across three different vineyards. While the exact blend is notably complex and includes a broad mix of Rhône varieties, Grenache forms the core of the wine, supported by Syrah, Mourvèdre and other traditional southern Rhône grapes. The bunches are pressed whole and fermented for around 10 days in cement vats with native yeasts, followed by two years of ageing in selected old oak barrels, keeping the focus firmly on purity, texture and terroir expression.

Food & Serving
This is a wine for slow-cooked and richly flavoured dishes, especially roast lamb, game, beef Wellington, duck with pepper sauce, truffle dishes or mature hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and if possible, decant for several hours before drinking to allow the aromatics and structure to fully open up.
