Description
Domaine du Pégaü Da Capo 2007 Magnum is the estate’s rarest and most prestigious cuvée, released only in outstanding vintages and revered by collectors worldwide. Built from an exceptionally selective blend of old-vine Rhône grapes, it is a wine of remarkable depth, power, and finesse—often mentioned alongside the great names of the region. In a magnum, its already formidable ageing potential and complexity are elevated even further, making it a true bucket-list bottle.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it pours an inky, almost black-purple color that signals both concentration and intensity. The nose is extraordinarily layered, with waves of ripe dark plums, blackberries, black pepper, liquorice, smoked meat, truffle, crème de cassis, violets, and warm Provençal herbs.
The palate is deeply concentrated yet impressively balanced, with dark fruit and peppery spice at the forefront, supported by a rich, seamless structure. The finish is extraordinarily long and persistent, showing the kind of length and energy that suggests decades of positive evolution ahead. This is a wine built for the long haul and will continue to gain nuance with extended cellaring.
Production
Da Capo is crafted from a highly selective parcel-level selection across three vineyards, with Laurence Féraud working with 13 grape varieties, led by Grenache and supported by Syrah, Mourvèdre, and other traditional Rhône cépages. The vines are rooted in the Rhône’s classic terroir of sun-baked soils and mature plantings, and the grapes are chosen only in exceptional years, with selection carried out almost obsessively to ensure only the finest fruit makes the final cut. Fermentation is done with whole clusters in cement tanks for around 10 days with indigenous yeasts and minimal intervention, followed by two years of ageing in carefully selected old oak barrels.
Food & Serving
Best enjoyed with equally expressive dishes such as slow-roasted lamb, beef Wellington, braised game, duck confit, truffle dishes, or mature hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for several hours if drinking young to allow the wine to fully open and reveal its complexity. In magnum format, it may benefit from even more patience, especially in its youth.
