Description

Domaine du Pegau Da Capo 2007 is the estate’s rarest and most celebrated cuvée, released only in exceptional vintages and made in tiny quantities. Often mentioned alongside the great wines of the Rhône, it reflects both the power and finesse that have made Pegau a benchmark for top-tier Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows an inky, near-black core with a vivid purple rim. The nose is profoundly expressive, layered with ripe black plum, blackberry, cracked pepper, liquorice, smoked meat, truffle, crème de cassis, violets, and classic Provençal herbs and spice. The palate is immense, concentrated, and remarkably balanced, with dark fruit, peppery spice, and savory depth unfolding in waves. The finish is extraordinarily long and persistent, and the wine has the structure and complexity to age gracefully for decades, rewarding patience with even greater nuance.

Production
Da Capo is crafted from fruit selected with extreme care from three vineyards and assembled from a field blend of 13 grape varieties, led by Grenache, with Syrah and Mourvèdre playing supporting roles. The grapes are whole-cluster pressed and fermented for around 10 days in cement vats with native yeasts and minimal intervention, preserving purity and terroir expression. Maturation takes place for two years in carefully chosen old oak barrels, allowing the wine to develop complexity without overt oak influence. The result is a highly concentrated Rhône wine built from low-intervention winemaking and meticulous selection.

Food & Serving
This is a wine for richly flavoured dishes such as slow-braised lamb, game, beef short ribs, roast duck, truffle dishes, or mature hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for several hours if drinking young to help the wine open up fully.

Producer
Domaine du Pegau is one of the most respected estates in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, led by Laurence Féraud and known for producing wines with classic Rhône character, depth, and longevity. The domaine has earned an outstanding reputation for traditional winemaking and for crafting some of the region’s most sought-after wines, with Da Capo standing as its flagship statement cuvée.
