Domaine du Pegau Da Capo 1998 is the domaine’s most exceptional cuvée, produced only in outstanding vintages and revered by many top wine critics as one of the great wines of the Rhône. Made in tiny quantities and selected with extreme precision from the estate’s best parcels, it stands as a benchmark expression of Châteauneuf-du-Pape and a true collector’s bottle.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows an opaque, inky core with a vivid purple hue. The nose is profoundly layered and intense, unfolding with dark plum, blackberry, freshly cracked pepper, liquorice, smoked meat, truffle, crème de cassis, violet, and classic Provençal herbs and spice. The palate is remarkably concentrated yet impeccably balanced, with deep dark fruit, peppery nuance, and a powerful sense of structure and harmony. The finish is extraordinarily long and persistent, and the wine is built for very long aging, with the depth and complexity to evolve beautifully over decades.

Production
Da Capo is produced from a highly selective blend drawn from three different vineyards, with Grenache as the dominant grape, supported by Syrah, Mourvèdre, and several other traditional Rhône varieties. The fruit is harvested and chosen with meticulous care, and the grapes are pressed whole before fermentation in cement tanks with indigenous yeasts and minimal intervention. After fermentation, the wine matures for two years in carefully selected old oak barrels to preserve purity and complexity while allowing the wine to develop its exceptional texture and depth.

Food & Serving
This is a wine for rich, slow-cooked dishes such as lamb shoulder, beef daube, game, venison, or truffle-based recipes. It also pairs beautifully with aged cheeses and Provençal cuisine. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant several hours in advance if drinking young, as it benefits greatly from air.
