Domaine du Pégau’s Châteauneuf-du-Pape Réserve is one of the estate’s most sought-after wines, celebrated for its depth, character, and unmistakable Rhône personality. Built on a traditional blend of 13 grape varieties, led by old-vine Grenache, it reflects both the power of the appellation and the craftsmanship that has made Pégau a benchmark producer. The 2018 vintage offers exceptional concentration and is presented here in an impressive 1200 cl format, delivered in its original wooden case.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this wine shows a deep, насыщенный ruby-garnet color. The bouquet is layered and expressive, with blackberries, ripe dark plums, black tea, black pepper, and fresh herbs such as rosemary and thyme, gradually giving way to hints of leather and sandalwood as it opens.
On the palate, it is full-bodied and powerful yet polished, combining dark fruit, clove, white pepper, and savory Mediterranean herb notes with remarkable finesse. The structure suggests excellent aging potential: enjoyable now with proper aeration, but capable of developing beautifully for at least 20–25 years, with the next five years bringing even more complexity.
Production
Sourced from the stony, sun-drenched terroirs of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the wine is made from a traditional blend dominated by about 80% Grenache, supported by Mourvèdre, Syrah, and the remaining permitted varieties of the appellation. The grapes are vinified with whole clusters, fermented in concrete vats without added yeast, and then matured for around two years in used oak barrels, a process that preserves purity of fruit while adding texture and depth.
Food & Serving
This is a wine that calls for richly flavored dishes such as lamb shoulder, game, beef short ribs, braised duck, or Provençal stews with herbs and olives. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for several hours if drinking young to allow the aromas and structure to fully unfold.
Producer
Domaine du Pégau is one of Châteauneuf-du-Pape’s most respected estates, long admired for its traditional winemaking and age-worthy reds. Under Laurence Féraud, the domaine has built a loyal following for wines of depth, authenticity, and longevity, with Réserve standing as its signature cuvée and a reference point for the appellation.
