Domaine du Pégau’s Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée is one of the appellation’s most recognisable classics, bringing together power, purity, and old-school charm in a generous 3-liter bottle. Built mainly on Grenache with supporting Syrah and Mourvèdre, it captures the sun-soaked character of the Southern Rhône and the traditional winemaking style that has made Pégau a benchmark name in the region.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby core with purple edges, immediately suggesting concentration and freshness. The nose opens with ripe red berries, blackberry, and cherry, layered with violet, rose petal, black pepper, and the wild herbal notes of garrigue. The palate is supple yet structured, with silky tannins, juicy dark fruit, and a long, spicy finish that keeps unfolding with air. It already offers plenty of pleasure now, but the wine also has the depth and balance to develop beautifully over the next several years, gaining even more nuance and harmony.

Production
The vineyards lie in the heart of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, where warm Mediterranean sunshine, clay, limestone, and the famous round stones of the Rhône create ideal conditions for fully ripened, characterful fruit. The grapes are harvested with care, with a focus on quality and maturity, before being spontaneously fermented with native yeasts. The wine is then aged for around two years in large foudres, a traditional approach that preserves freshness while building texture, complexity, and balance.

Food & Serving
This is a superb match for grilled lamb, game, oven-roasted meats, and mature cheeses. Serve it at 16–18°C, and give it about an hour in a decanter or just some time in the glass to let the aromatics open up and the structure soften.
