Domaine du Pegau’s Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée is one of the estate’s most celebrated wines, and the 2015 vintage in magnum format offers the kind of depth and longevity collectors look for. Built around old-vine Grenache with a traditional blend of 13 grape varieties, it combines generous southern Rhône richness with remarkable finesse and structure.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep, dark ruby colour hinting at its concentration. The nose opens with blackberry, black plum, black tea, black pepper, fresh rosemary, and thyme, gradually revealing more complex layers of leather and sandalwood with air. The palate is powerful yet composed, delivering dark fruit, clove, white pepper, and the same herbal notes found on the nose. It has impressive density and balance, with the structure and magnum format suggesting excellent aging potential over the next 20 years and beyond, while also rewarding patience in the near term.

Production
Cuvée Réservée comes from Châteauneuf-du-Pape vineyards shaped by the stony, sun-soaked terroir of the southern Rhône, where mature vines bring concentration and character. The grapes are harvested and vinified traditionally, with whole clusters pressed and fermentation carried out in concrete vats without added yeast, followed by around two years of maturation in used oak barrels.

Food & Serving
This is a superb wine for rich, flavourful dishes such as lamb shoulder, beef short ribs, game, or Provençal stews with herbs and garlic. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decanting for at least one to two hours is recommended to allow the wine’s aromatics and layered complexity to unfold fully.
