Domaine du Pegau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Inspiration 2016 Magnum is one of the rarest expressions of the estate’s flagship style, produced only in exceptional vintages and in extremely limited quantities. Based on the legendary Da Capo and crafted with extraordinary precision, it stands as a collector’s wine from one of the Rhône’s most revered names, with a reputation that places it among the greats of Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows an inky, near-black core with a subtle violet rim, hinting at its depth and concentration. The nose is profoundly layered, bursting with ripe black plum, blackberry, cracked pepper, liquorice, smoked meat, truffle, crème de cassis, violet, and classic Provençal herbs and spices. The palate is immensely concentrated yet beautifully composed, delivering a powerful core of dark fruit, pepper, and savoury spice wrapped in a seamless, polished texture. The finish is exceptionally long and persistent, and the wine has the structure and balance to age for decades with ease.

Production
This cuvée is made from a meticulous selection of grapes from three different parcels, with Grenache as the dominant component, supported by Syrah, Mourvèdre, and a range of other traditional Rhône varieties. Harvested and sorted with extreme care, the whole bunches are gently pressed and fermented for around 10 days in cement tanks with native yeasts, allowing the wine to develop with minimal intervention. It then matures for two years in carefully chosen old oak barrels, preserving purity and amplifying complexity.

Food & Serving
Best served with richly flavoured dishes such as slow-braised lamb, beef short ribs, game, venison, or truffle-infused cuisine. Serve at 16–18°C, and decanting for several hours is highly recommended to allow the wine to fully open and reveal its extraordinary aromatic depth.
