Description

Domaine Drouhin-Laroze Latricières-Chambertin 2022 is a refined Grand Cru red Burgundy from one of Gevrey-Chambertin’s most quietly revered sites. Crafted entirely from Pinot Noir, this wine balances intensity and finesse, offering a precise expression of its cool, stony terroir. For collectors and Burgundy lovers, the 2022 vintage delivers both immediate charm and serious aging potential. Latricières-Chambertin is celebrated for its elegance and mineral drive, often showing a more restrained and chiselled profile than some of its neighboring Grands Crus. Domaine Drouhin-Laroze, with deep roots in Gevrey, has long been recognized for classical, terroir-focused winemaking that allows this exceptional climat’s character to shine through.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2022 Latricières-Chambertin presents a luminous, medium-deep ruby color with youthful purple highlights at the rim. The nose is nuanced and slowly unfurls with aromas of wild red berries, Morello cherry, and crushed raspberry, layered with notes of rose petals, violets, and hints of forest floor. Underneath, a distinct mineral edge emerges—flint, wet stone, and a gentle spice profile of white pepper, clove, and a touch of finely integrated oak. On the palate, this wine is precise and finely etched rather than overtly opulent. A core of vibrant red fruit—cranberry, red cherry, and pomegranate—is framed by taut acidity and silky yet persistent tannins. Savory undertones of dried herbs, subtle game, and a saline, stony finish underline the Grand Cru pedigree. The oak is polished and supportive, adding texture without overwhelming the fruit. While already complex in its youth, this 2022 has the structure and balance to evolve beautifully over 12–20 years, gaining further depth, tertiary notes, and additional silkiness with proper cellaring.

Production
Latricières-Chambertin lies at the southern end of Gevrey-Chambertin’s Grand Cru slope, on well-drained, stony soils rich in limestone and poor in organic matter, which naturally limit yields and amplify finesse and minerality. The cool exposition and often breezier microclimate contribute to the wine’s hallmark freshness and tension. At Domaine Drouhin-Laroze, fruit is typically harvested by hand in small crates, with careful sorting in the vineyard and at the cellar to ensure only the healthiest Pinot Noir clusters are retained. Vinification is classically Burgundian: gentle destemming (sometimes with a proportion of whole clusters, depending on vintage conditions), cold maceration to extract color and aroma delicately, followed by fermentation in temperature-controlled vats with regular pigeage or remontage for fine, balanced extraction. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels—often with a judicious proportion of new oak—to enhance structure and complexity while preserving the clarity of the Latricières terroir.

Food & Serving
This Grand Cru pairs beautifully with refined, savory dishes that echo its delicacy and depth. Ideal companions include roast duck with cherry or cranberry glaze, slow-braised lamb shoulder, venison with juniper and wild mushrooms, or classic Burgundian dishes such as coq au vin or boeuf bourguignon prepared with restraint. It also harmonizes with truffle-infused dishes, game birds, and aged, nutty cheeses like Comté or a well-matured Tomme. For optimal enjoyment, serve at 15–16°C (59–61°F). In its youth, a gentle decant of 45–60 minutes helps the aromatics fully unfold; as the wine ages and becomes more delicate, a shorter decant—or simply allowing it to open in the glass—will be sufficient.

Producer
Domaine Drouhin-Laroze is a historic, family-run estate based in Gevrey-Chambertin, with roots dating back to the mid-19th century. Over generations, the family has assembled an enviable collection of top vineyard holdings, including several Grands Crus such as Chambertin, Clos de Bèze, Bonnes-Mares, and Latricières-Chambertin. The domaine is widely respected in Burgundy for its commitment to expressing each climat’s identity through thoughtful vineyard work and restrained, traditional winemaking. Modern refinements in the cellar and a strong focus on vineyard health have further elevated quality in recent decades, solidifying Drouhin-Laroze’s reputation as a benchmark producer in the Côte de Nuits and a trusted name for serious Burgundy enthusiasts.
