Description

Domaine Des Forges D'Anjou Sauvignon Blanc 2022 is a crisp, Loire-born white wine that captures the region’s trademark freshness and elegance. Crafted from Sauvignon Blanc grown in the heart of Anjou, it balances vibrant fruit, bright acidity and a subtle mineral edge. With roots reaching back to 1890, this cuvée reflects more than a century of know-how at one of the Loire Valley’s emblematic family estates.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Sauvignon Blanc shows a pale straw-yellow colour with green highlights, signalling its youth and freshness. The nose opens with lifted aromas of citrus zest—think lemon and grapefruit—alongside green apple, gooseberry and a gentle hint of white flowers. Subtle notes of fresh-cut grass and wet stone underline its Loire origin. On the palate, it is dry, lively and precise, with a mouth-watering acidity that keeps the wine energetic from start to finish. Flavours of lime, crunchy pear and grapefruit are joined by a light herbal nuance and a clean, chalky minerality. The finish is crisp and refreshing rather than opulent, making it an ideal wine for early drinking. While it can comfortably evolve for 2–3 years in bottle, this 2022 vintage is at its most expressive in its youth, prized for its purity and tension.

Production
Domaine des Forges draws its Sauvignon Blanc grapes from carefully selected plots in Anjou, where the Loire’s temperate climate and varied soils—featuring schist, sand and clay-limestone—promote slow ripening and aromatic complexity. The fruit is typically harvested at optimal ripeness, often by machine with careful sorting, to preserve freshness and capture the grape’s vibrant character. In the cellar, the grapes are gently pressed and the must is cold-settled before a cool, temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless-steel tanks, a method chosen to protect the delicate aromatics and crisp structure of Sauvignon Blanc. The wine is then kept on fine lees for a short period to add a touch of texture without sacrificing its bright, zesty profile, and is bottled young to lock in its freshness.

Food & Serving
This Loire Sauvignon Blanc is a natural partner for seafood and light, fresh dishes. Serve it alongside oysters, mussels, grilled prawns or simply prepared white fish, as well as goat’s cheese (a classic Loire pairing), salads with citrus dressings, sushi or herb-driven vegetable dishes. It also works beautifully as an aperitif. For optimal enjoyment, serve well-chilled at 8–10°C. Decanting is not necessary, but opening the bottle 10–15 minutes before serving will allow the aromas to unfurl gently in the glass.

Producer
Founded in 1890 when Pierre Robineau acquired just 2 hectares of vines at a site called “Le Clos des Forges,” Domaine des Forges has grown over five generations into a respected Loire Valley estate. Today, Stéphane and Séverine Branchereau continue the family legacy, combining traditional savoir-faire with a thoughtful, modern approach to viticulture and winemaking. Based in Anjou, the domaine is particularly recognized for the quality and consistency of its Loire whites—ranging from dry to sweet styles—and has become a reference point in the region for wines that express their terroir with clarity and finesse. Their long history, deep local roots and commitment to innovation place Domaine des Forges among the notable producers shaping the contemporary reputation of Anjou wines.
