Description
Domaine de la Romanée-Conti is one of Burgundy’s most revered estates, and Romanée-Saint-Vivant sits comfortably among its most coveted wines. Sourced from a Grand Cru vineyard in Vosne-Romanée and crafted from Pinot Noir, the 2010 vintage combines rarity, precision, and the understated power that has made DRC a benchmark for generations.
Tasting Notes
The 2010 Romanée-Saint-Vivant shows the kind of finesse that defines great Burgundy: a luminous ruby colour, fragrant and layered rather than overtly powerful. On the nose, Robert Parker noted an exotic mosaic of sweet spices, red berries, dried flowers, and mint, all lifted by remarkable purity and freshness.
The palate is silky, detailed, and beautifully textured, with finely etched red fruit, spice, and floral nuances unfolding into a long, captivating finish. This is a wine built for patience, with anticipated maturity from 2030 to 2050, and it should continue to gain complexity for many years in a good cellar.
Production
Romanée-Saint-Vivant comes from one of Vosne-Romanée’s most prestigious Grand Cru sites, where the soils and exposure lend Pinot Noir its signature perfume, finesse, and depth. Domaine de la Romanée-Conti farms its vineyards organically, with close attention to low yields, massal selection, and meticulous hand harvesting to preserve the character of each parcel.
In the cellar, the estate follows a restrained, traditional approach: the fruit is carefully sorted, fermentation begins naturally, and ageing takes place in French oak barrels with a strong emphasis on transparency rather than manipulation. The result is a wine that expresses terroir with clarity and precision.
Food & Serving
Best served with refined dishes that won’t overwhelm its elegance, such as roast duck, pigeon, veal tenderloin, wild mushroom risotto, or truffle-infused dishes. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting gently for 30–60 minutes if the wine is young or tightly wound, though extended aeration is usually not necessary for a wine of this stature.
Producer
Founded on a history that stretches back to the Saint-Vivant monastery, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti has become the defining name in Grand Cru Burgundy. Based in Vosne-Romanée, the estate is renowned for its exceptional vineyard holdings, including Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, Richebourg, and Romanée-Saint-Vivant, all at the top classification level in Burgundy.
Under the long stewardship of Aubert de Villaine, alongside the Leroy family’s continued involvement, the domaine has maintained an uncompromising commitment to organic farming, low intervention winemaking, and extraordinary quality. Its wines are among the most sought-after in the world, with a reputation built on consistency, rarity, and profound site expression.
