Description

Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Romanée-Conti 2014 is one of Burgundy’s most coveted wines, sourced from the legendary monopole vineyard that has long stood as the benchmark for Pinot Noir. Crafted by a domaine often called the “King of Burgundy,” this vintage reflects the house’s uncompromising precision, rarity, and deep-rooted history in Vosne-Romanée.

Tasting Notes
The 2014 Romanée-Conti shows a beautifully restrained, refined profile rather than immediate opulence. It opens with ethereal red berry fruit, mineral lift, and subtle tertiary nuances, followed by a medium-bodied palate of supple tannins, finely judged acidity, and a sense of linear clarity that gives the wine its unmistakable poise. There is impressive detail and balance here, with volume building through the mid-palate before a focused, grippy finish. Compared with some of the domaine’s more expansive cuvées, this wine feels discreet and exacting, but its layered structure and purity suggest excellent aging potential over many years, and likely decades in the right cellar.

Production
Romanée-Conti comes from a tiny Grand Cru vineyard in Vosne-Romanée, planted on highly prized Burgundy terroir that delivers exceptional finesse and concentration. The grapes are hand-harvested with strict sorting both in the vineyard and at the winery, and the domaine works with very low yields, organic farming, and elements of biodynamic thinking to preserve purity and site expression. Vinification is traditional and deliberately gentle: fermentation takes place in large old wooden vats, followed by élevage in new oak barrels for around 16 to 18 months.

Food & Serving
This wine deserves equally refined cuisine: think roast pigeon, duck breast, veal, truffle-based dishes, or elegant game such as venison served with earthy mushrooms. It is best served cool room temperature, around 16–18°C, and if opening young, a careful decant of 30 to 60 minutes may help the wine gradually unfold without losing its nuance.

Producer
Domaine de la Romanée-Conti is one of Burgundy’s most historic and revered estates, with origins linked to the former Saint-Vivant monastery and a modern identity shaped by the Duvault-Blochet family in the 19th century. Today the domaine is renowned for owning only Grand Cru vineyards and for producing wines of extraordinary scarcity and reputation. Under Aubert de Villaine’s long stewardship, it has become a global reference point for Pinot Noir, known for its meticulous vineyard work, organic farming, and deeply consistent quality.
