Description
Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Montrachet 2009 is one of the world’s most coveted white wines and a true icon of Burgundy’s Grand Cru hierarchy. Produced from the estate’s tiny parcel on the legendary Montrachet vineyard, it combines monumental depth with an almost unbelievable sense of finesse — a rare expression of Chardonnay at its very highest level.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows remarkable concentration and purity, with a luminous, golden sheen that hints at its richness and maturity. The bouquet is intensely layered and ever-evolving, opening with ripe peach, citrus zest, white flowers and acacia honey, before revealing roasted hazelnut, butter, crushed limestone and subtle spice.
On the palate, Montrachet 2009 is both powerful and precise. The fruit is generous and deeply textured, yet balanced by a striking freshness and an electric mineral core that keeps everything lifted and focused. Its silky, full-bodied texture and extraordinary length point to excellent aging potential, though it already offers a profound and beautifully harmonious drinking experience.
Production
Sourced from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti’s microscopic holding in Montrachet, one of Burgundy’s most celebrated Grand Cru sites, the wine reflects the exceptional terroir of limestone-rich soils and an outstanding south-east facing slope. The 2009 vintage brought ripe, generous fruit and a naturally harmonious structure, allowing the estate to craft a wine of exceptional depth, precision and balance. Vinification is handled with the meticulous care for which the domaine is renowned, preserving purity, finesse and the distinctive mineral signature of the site.
Food & Serving
This is a wine for the finest table: lobster, turbot, scallops, roasted poultry with cream sauces, foie gras, or truffled dishes all make superb companions. Serve slightly chilled, ideally around 12–14°C, and consider decanting for a short period if the wine is still very young or tightly wound, though older bottles may be best enjoyed with minimal handling.
