Description

Domaine de la Romanée-Conti’s La Tâche is one of Burgundy’s most coveted Pinot Noirs, combining immense depth, precision, and the unmistakable finesse that has made this legendary estate the benchmark for Grand Cru wine. The 2006 vintage is especially compelling for its power and density, while still showing the aromatic complexity and age-worthy structure collectors prize. Hailing from one of Vosne-Romanée’s most historic and revered sites, it represents the very pinnacle of Burgundy.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, La Tâche 2006 shows a deep, concentrated ruby hue. The nose is intensely layered, opening with bittersweet floral perfume, citrus oils, white pepper, peat, black fruit, and earthy nuances of forest floor, mushroom stock, and smoky tea. On the palate, it is broad, dense, and powerfully structured, with ripe cooked black fruits, licorice, savory marrow-like depth, and substantial tannins that give the wine serious grip. Despite its richness, it retains energy and lift, with a long finish built for decades of cellaring. This is a wine that is likely to evolve beautifully over 20 years or more.

Production
La Tâche comes from a Grand Cru vineyard in Vosne-Romanée, where Domaine de la Romanée-Conti works with exceptionally low yields, old vines, and meticulous parcel selection. The estate farms organically, with biodynamic principles influencing the vineyard work, and relies on hand harvesting followed by rigorous sorting to ensure only pristine fruit reaches the cellar. Vinification is kept as traditional and intervention-free as possible: the grapes undergo a natural start to fermentation, are fermented in large old wooden vats, then moved into new French oak for maturation. Aging lasts around 16 to 18 months, allowing the wine to absorb oak while preserving the pure expression of its terroir.

Food & Serving
This is a wine for refined, deeply flavored dishes such as roast duck, game bird, venison, beef tenderloin, mushroom-based dishes, or truffled preparations. Decanting can be helpful, especially in youth, but should be done gently and not for too long to preserve its layered aromatic profile. Serve at around 16–18°C, and ideally open well ahead of time if drinking before peak maturity.

Producer
Domaine de la Romanée-Conti is one of the most famous and respected estates in the world, with roots going back to the 13th century and a long history tied to the great vineyards of Burgundy. Based in Vosne-Romanée, the domaine owns only Grand Cru parcels and is widely regarded as the “King of Burgundy” for the quality and rarity of its wines. Its modern reputation was shaped by generations of careful stewardship, especially under Aubert de Villaine and Lalou Bize-Leroy, who helped refine the estate’s organic farming and uncompromising vineyard standards. Today, DRC remains synonymous with precision, continuity, and some of the most sought-after Pinot Noir wines ever made.
