Description
Domaine de la Romanée-Conti’s Échezeaux 2015 is a Grand Cru Pinot Noir of rare pedigree, combining power, finesse, and the unmistakable stamp of one of Burgundy’s most revered domaines. From a historic vineyard with roots dating back to medieval monastic ownership, this wine captures the richness of the 2015 vintage while preserving the precision and elegance that define DRC.
Tasting Notes
The 2015 Échezeaux opens with a deeply colored, polished appearance and an aromatic profile that is immediately expressive and luxurious. Expect layers of mulberry, black cherry, wood smoke, and finely integrated new oak, with the kind of lifted perfume and depth that make Burgundy so compelling at the top level.
On the palate, it is full-bodied, concentrated, and intensely flavored, yet kept beautifully in check by a firm tannic frame and bright, driving acidity. The fruit feels succulent and sappy rather than heavy, giving the wine both richness and clarity. This is a wine built for cellaring and should continue to evolve gracefully for many years, gaining complexity and silkiness with time.
Production
Sourced from Échezeaux Grand Cru in Vosne-Romanée, the wine reflects one of Burgundy’s most prestigious terroirs, where limestone-rich soils and careful vineyard work contribute to remarkable intensity and detail. Domaine de la Romanée-Conti farms its vineyards organically, with biodynamic principles increasingly influencing the work, and yields are kept extremely low through strict pruning, massal selection, and rigorous sorting at harvest. The grapes are hand-harvested, fermented in traditional wooden vats with minimal intervention, then aged for 16 to 18 months in new oak barrels before bottling.
Food & Serving
This is a wine for equally refined dishes such as roasted duck, pigeon, beef tenderloin, venison, or wild mushroom risotto. It also pairs beautifully with truffle-based dishes and aged cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant gently if drinking young, though an older bottle may only need a brief aeration to open up.
Producer
Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, based in Vosne-Romanée, is widely regarded as one of the greatest wine estates in the world and is often referred to as the “King of Burgundy.” Its history stretches back to the 13th century, and today the domaine owns only Grand Cru vineyards, including some of the most legendary parcels in the region. Under the guidance of Aubert de Villaine and a highly experienced cellar team, the estate has become synonymous with purity, consistency, and extraordinary quality.
