Domaine de Ferrand, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, 2022

Domaine de Ferrand’s Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2022 is a striking expression of the appellation, made from an exceptional majority of old-vine Grenache with supporting Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault. Sourced from historic parcels in the northern sector of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, this wine combines purity, depth and a distinctly terroir-driven character that reflects the pedigree of one of the Rhône’s most celebrated villages.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep, vibrant colour with impressive concentration. The nose is bright and expressive, layered with black raspberries, blackberries and a subtle spicy edge that adds lift and complexity. The palate is supple and generous, with a silky texture and remarkable flavour intensity. Ripe black fruits dominate, framed by fine structure and a clean, focused finish. Thanks to the concentration from very old vines, it should age gracefully over the coming years, developing greater nuance and depth.

Production
This wine comes from two historic parcels, Cabrières and La Gardiole, located in the northern sector of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, where the vines are up to 120 years old. The combination of these mature vines and the region’s stony Rhône terroir naturally yields low volumes of highly concentrated fruit. Vinification is kept traditional and respectful of the fruit, with ageing carried out exclusively in large vats and no oak influence, preserving the wine’s pure varietal character and site expression.

Food & Serving
Ideal with roast lamb, duck breast, game, grilled beef or herb-roasted vegetables. Serve at around 16–18°C; decanting for about 1–2 hours is recommended, especially in its youth, to allow the wine to open fully and show its aromatic depth.
