Description
Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Musigny Grand Cru 2013 Magnum is one of the most celebrated expressions of Pinot Noir in the world, and a true benchmark for grand cru Burgundy. From the historic heart of Chambolle-Musigny, it combines aristocratic finesse, extraordinary depth, and the rarity of a magnum format that is especially prized for long-term cellaring.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Musigny typically shows a luminous, translucent ruby color that hints at its finesse rather than sheer power. The nose is layered and deeply perfumed, with wild raspberry, cherry, violet, and rose petal aromas unfolding into oriental spice, forest floor, and a refined mineral edge.
On the palate, the wine is both intense and weightless, with a silken texture, vibrant acidity, and tannins of remarkable delicacy. Red and dark berries, floral notes, and chalky mineral nuances build through an extraordinarily long finish. This is a wine with exceptional aging potential, and in magnum format it should evolve even more slowly and gracefully over decades.
Production
Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé owns the largest share of the famed Musigny vineyard, one of Burgundy’s most revered terroirs, where limestone-rich soils and an ideal slope help shape the wine’s balance of power and elegance. The fruit is typically harvested by hand with strict selection, ensuring only the finest berries are used.
Vinification is carried out with a light touch and great respect for the vintage, allowing the character of Musigny to speak clearly through the wine. The result is a grand cru that reflects both site and tradition, crafted to preserve purity, precision, and aromatic complexity.
Food & Serving
This is a wine to pair with refined dishes that can match its subtle power, such as duck breast, quail, roasted pheasant, veal, or mushroom-based dishes with truffle accents. It also works beautifully with fine beef preparations and aged cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant gently if needed, especially in youth, though very old bottles may be best opened carefully and tasted without extended aeration.
Producer
Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé is one of Burgundy’s most prestigious historic domaines, with roots stretching back centuries in Chambolle-Musigny. The estate is widely regarded as a guardian of some of the region’s greatest terroirs, particularly Musigny, where it holds the largest vineyard share. Its reputation has been built on consistency, restraint, and wines of exceptional elegance and longevity, making it a reference point for grand cru Burgundy.
