Description
Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Musigny Grand Cru 2007 is one of Burgundy’s most iconic Pinot Noir wines and the crown jewel of the historic Chambolle-Musigny estate. Sourced from the legendary Musigny vineyard — a site long regarded as one of the greatest in all of Burgundy — it combines aristocratic elegance, depth, and extraordinary finesse in a way few wines ever achieve.
Tasting Notes
The wine typically shows a luminous ruby color with the kind of clarity and finesse associated with great Burgundy. Its bouquet is deeply layered, unfolding with notes of wild raspberry, cherry, violet, rose petal, and subtle oriental spice, alongside forest floor and a refined mineral edge.
On the palate, it is both powerful and almost weightless, with a silky texture, remarkable concentration, vibrant acidity, and ultra-fine tannins. Flavors of red and dark berries, floral nuances, and chalky minerality carry through a long, harmonious finish. With bottle age, it can gain beautiful complexity, developing truffle, dried flowers, and exotic spice notes, and it has outstanding aging potential over decades.
Production
Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé owns the largest share of the Musigny Grand Cru vineyard, a site prized for its exceptional terroir and south-eastern exposure in the heart of Chambolle-Musigny. The soils are typically limestone-rich with excellent drainage, contributing to the wine’s precision, aromatic lift, and mineral backbone. Pinot Noir is harvested with great care, and vinification is carried out with a strict focus on preserving the purity and expression of the vineyard, allowing the character of Musigny to remain at the forefront.
Food & Serving
This is a wine best enjoyed with refined dishes that match its elegance and complexity, such as roast pigeon, duck breast, veal, venison, or truffle-enhanced mushroom dishes. It also pairs beautifully with fine poultry and classic Burgundian cuisine. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decanting for 1–2 hours is recommended if the wine is still youthful, though very old bottles may be best opened with minimal aeration.
Producer
Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé is one of Burgundy’s most revered domaines, with a long-standing reputation for producing wines of exceptional class and age-worthiness. Based in Chambolle-Musigny, the estate has become synonymous with some of the region’s greatest Pinot Noir expressions, particularly Musigny Grand Cru. Its holdings and careful stewardship of these prized vineyards have secured its place among the most important and admired producers in Burgundy.
