Description

Domaine Claudie Jobard’s 2023 Pommard 1er Cru Les Charmots combines the appellation’s characteristic structure with the finesse of old-vine Pinot Noir. Made in a tiny quantity from vines around 100 years old, this Premier Cru offers a distinctive expression of one of Pommard’s northern hillside sites.

Tasting Notes
The wine shows a light ruby-to-garnet hue, with an elegant, floral nose and aromas of red berries. On the palate, refined Pinot Noir fruit is balanced by the firm, structured character of Pommard, while the clay-limestone soils lend additional shape and depth. Its freshness and finesse make it engaging while young, though its structure and old-vine concentration also give it potential to develop with time in the cellar.

Production
Les Charmots lies in northern Pommard on a south- to southeast-facing slope. Claudie Jobard’s small parcel is planted with vines around a century old in classic clay-limestone soils, with vineyard work carried out by hand or with horses. Made from 100% Pinot Noir, the wine is aged in French oak barrels, 30–50% of them new, then bottled without fining or filtration. Production for the 2023 vintage is limited to 900 bottles.

Food & Serving
Serve at around 16–18°C. It should pair well with roast duck, lamb, game birds, or mushroom dishes, whose savoury flavours complement the wine’s red-fruit character and structure. For a young bottle, consider decanting gently for around 30–60 minutes; older bottles are best opened with care and assessed before decanting.
