Domaine Chanzy Vosne-Romanée La Croix Blanche 2024

Domaine Chanzy’s Vosne-Romanée La Croix Blanche is a Pinot Noir from a lieu-dit just south of Vosne-Romanée. Its name refers to the white stone cross that marks the boundary between the vineyards, while a carefully managed extraction and measured oak ageing give the wine depth without obscuring its fruit.

Tasting Notes
The wine shows a deep colour for a Burgundian Pinot Noir. Juicy red berries lead on the nose and palate, complemented by spice from the oak. Its structure gives it a firm presence, with the potential to develop greater elegance and complexity with time in bottle.

Production
La Croix Blanche lies just south of Vosne-Romanée, and its name comes from the white stone cross dividing the vineyard plots. The grapes undergo a ten-day maceration, followed by fermentation in stainless-steel tanks at low temperatures, with the aim of building colour and aroma while avoiding harsh tannins. The wine then spends ten months in barrels, 30% of them new, before a further five months in stainless steel to settle before bottling. Harvesting methods and further details about the vineyard’s terroir are not specified.

Food & Serving
Serve at around 16–18°C alongside roast duck, mushroom dishes, or simply prepared lamb, which complement Pinot Noir’s red-fruit character and oak spice. A short spell in a decanter can help the wine open up; older bottles are best poured gently.
