Description
Domaine Chanzy Rully 1er Cru Marissou 2023 is a finely judged white Burgundy from one of the Côte Chalonnaise’s most promising sites. Combining ripe Chardonnay fruit, mineral tension, and a polished oak frame, it captures the elegance and depth that make great Rully so compelling. The Marissou vineyard sits on marly limestone and clay-limestone soils, giving the wine both generosity and a distinctly Burgundian sense of structure.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a bright golden hue with a subtle green shimmer, hinting at its youth and energy. The nose opens with apricot and quince, lifted by vanilla, gentle toast, and a discreet floral nuance that adds finesse.
The palate is rounded and layered, with a pleasing sense of volume balanced by precise acidity and a clear mineral line. There is a refined, lightly saline finish that keeps the wine vibrant and focused. While already approachable, it should also develop beautifully over the next 5 to 8 years, gaining extra complexity and breadth.
Production
Marissou is a gently elevated Premier Cru site in Rully, planted on marly limestone and clay-limestone soils that encourage ripeness while preserving freshness and mineral drive. Domaine Chanzy works with a restrained, terroir-led approach, allowing the vineyard to speak clearly in the finished wine. The wine is aged for 10 months in 228-liter French oak barrels, with 30% new oak, followed by 5 months in stainless steel to refine texture, integration, and balance.
Food & Serving
This wine is an excellent match for roast poultry, pan-seared scallops, lobster, creamy fish dishes, and white mushrooms. It also pairs well with mild, buttery cheeses and classic Burgundy fare such as chicken in a cream sauce. Serve at 10–12°C; decanting is not essential, but 20–30 minutes in a carafe can help if the wine is opened young.
