Description
Domaine Bouzereau Meursault Les Narvaux 2023 is a precise, mineral-driven expression of top-tier Meursault from one of the village’s finest lieux-dits. Crafted entirely from Chardonnay, this cuvée blends three parcels within Les Narvaux, each contributing nuance and complexity. Always vinified separately from the estate’s other Meursaults, it highlights the exceptional hillside position and stony soils that have made this site so sought-after.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2023 Les Narvaux shows a bright, pale to medium straw hue with greenish reflections, signalling freshness and youth. The nose is focused and lifted, offering citrus zest, green apple and ripe pear, layered with white flowers, chalky minerality and subtle hints of hazelnut and fresh butter just beginning to emerge.
On the palate, this Meursault is taut and energetic rather than overtly rich, with a fine, linear acidity that frames its concentrated fruit. Lemon curd, crunchy orchard fruits and a touch of stone fruit are intertwined with saline, flinty notes and a discreet whisper of oak spice. The finish is long, precise and mouthwatering, more about tension and minerality than opulence. While already attractive in its youth, this 2023 has the structure to develop beautifully over 6–10 years, gaining further complexity, creaminess and classic Meursault nuttiness with time in bottle.
Production
Les Narvaux sits high on the slope above the village of Meursault, on thin, limestone-rich soils with plenty of stones and excellent drainage, producing wines of finesse, tension and pronounced minerality. This cuvée combines three parcels within the lieu-dit, including a plot that had been abandoned after phylloxera and was painstakingly cleared and replanted by Vincent Bouzereau’s father in the 1970s. The vines are carefully tended, with selective harvesting by hand to ensure only perfectly ripe, healthy Chardonnay grapes are brought to the cellar. Vinification is carried out separately from the estate’s other village-level Meursaults, typically with gentle pressing, fermentation in oak (a balanced proportion of new barrels), and aging on fine lees to build texture and depth while preserving the site’s signature freshness and clarity of fruit.
Food & Serving
This elegant yet structured Meursault pairs beautifully with refined seafood dishes such as seared scallops, lobster with butter and herbs, or grilled turbot, as well as roast chicken, veal in cream sauce, and delicately sauced dishes featuring mushrooms. It also works superbly with fine cheeses like Comté, Beaufort or mild, creamy cow’s milk cheeses. Serve at 10–12°C; slightly cooler for aperitif, allowing the wine to warm gently in the glass. Decanting for 30–45 minutes in its youth can help open the aromatics and soften the structure, particularly if enjoyed within the first few years after release.
Producer
Domaine Vincent Bouzereau is a respected family estate based in Meursault, rooted in several generations of vignerons who have patiently built up holdings in some of the village’s most prized sites. The replanting of abandoned vineyards in Les Narvaux in the 1970s is emblematic of the family’s long-term commitment to the land and to the village’s reputation for world-class Chardonnay. Today, Vincent Bouzereau continues this legacy, crafting wines that are known for their clarity, balance and faithful expression of terroir. Within the wider Bourgogne region, the domaine is particularly noted for its precise, mineral Meursaults, which have become favourites among Burgundy enthusiasts looking for authenticity and a strong sense of place.
