Description

Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet’s Fixin Les Clos 2023 is a refined red Burgundy from the northern Côte de Nuits, offering an appealing balance of bright fruit, earthy detail and elegant structure. Made from Pinot Noir, it showcases the character of Fixin, an appellation known for producing Burgundy with both freshness and depth. The Fixin appellation has been recognised since 1936 and remains one of the Côte de Nuits’ most distinctive sources of traditionally styled Pinot Noir.

Tasting Notes
The wine displays a vibrant ruby-red colour, with the youthful clarity typical of a recent Burgundy vintage. On the nose, aromas of red cherry, raspberry and wild strawberry are complemented by violets, subtle spice and a gently earthy undertone. On the palate, it is fresh and finely textured, combining juicy red fruit with savoury nuances, delicate tannins and a lively mineral finish. The 2023 vintage should offer pleasure in its youth while gaining further complexity over the next several years, particularly with careful cellaring.

Production
Fixin Les Clos comes from the Côte de Nuits, where limestone and marl soils help give the wine freshness, structure and a subtle mineral character. The wine is produced from Pinot Noir, with the fruit carefully handled to preserve the expression of the named Les Clos parcel and the natural elegance of the vintage. Exact harvesting and vinification details for this cuvée are not specified, but the style is centred on balanced extraction and an authentic expression of Burgundy terroir.

Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 14–16°C to highlight the wine’s freshness and aromatic detail. It pairs beautifully with roast chicken, duck, pork tenderloin, coq au vin, mushroom dishes and soft, mature cheeses. Decanting is not essential for this youthful wine, but 30–45 minutes in a decanter can help open its aromas and soften the structure before serving.

Producer
Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet is a respected Burgundy estate associated with both Fixin and Vosne-Romanée. Under the guidance of Amélie Berthaut, the domaine has developed a strong reputation for producing polished, terroir-driven wines that combine the elegance of the Côte de Nuits with a clear sense of place. Its wines are valued for their finesse, precision and ability to express individual vineyards without losing Burgundy’s traditional character.

Amélie Berthaut is one of the young Burgundy talents to keep an eye on. She took over the family estate in 2013 and has since created a style that combines classic Burgundy with a more modern precision. Fixin Les Clos is an obvious place to start: here you get her craftsmanship and a clear picture of why her wines have received so much attention, without the price getting completely out of hand.
