Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux’s Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru 2007 is a rare magnum from one of Vosne-Romanée’s most celebrated vineyards. Known for producing profoundly elegant and aromatic Pinot Noir, the domaine expresses this Grand Cru with exceptional finesse, depth and a distinctive sense of place. The 1.5-litre format is particularly prized for its slower, more graceful evolution in bottle.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine is expected to show a mature ruby colour with garnet reflections. Its bouquet should reveal the hallmark perfume of Romanée-Saint-Vivant: rose petals, violets and ripe red berries layered with woodland, spice, earth and subtle savoury notes developed through bottle age.
The palate is poised and silky, combining refined tannins with vibrant acidity and concentrated flavours of red cherry, raspberry, plum and exotic spice. The 2007 vintage is generally associated with elegance and freshness rather than sheer power, making this a graceful, nuanced Burgundy with a long, persistent finish. Properly stored, it should be drinking beautifully now, while the magnum format may allow further development over the coming years.
Production
Romanée-Saint-Vivant lies in the heart of Vosne-Romanée, directly below the famed Romanée-Conti vineyard. Its sheltered, east-facing slopes and well-drained limestone-rich soils provide ideal conditions for Pinot Noir, favouring perfume, silkiness and mineral definition. Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux is known for a traditional, terroir-focused approach, with careful vineyard work, selective harvesting and gentle vinification designed to preserve the character of the site. Exact details of the 2007 cuvée’s élevage are not specified, but wines of this level are typically matured in French oak before extended bottle ageing.
Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 16–18°C after allowing the wine to settle. A cautious decant of around 30–60 minutes may help open the bouquet, although a mature Grand Cru Burgundy can be delicate; opening the bottle and tasting it over time is often the safest approach. Pair with refined dishes such as roast pigeon, duck breast, quail, veal, wild mushrooms or an elegant beef preparation. Avoid heavily spiced sauces that could overpower the wine’s fragrance and detail.
Producer
Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux, based in Vosne-Romanée, is one of Burgundy’s highly regarded domaines. Formerly known as Domaine Robert Arnoux, the estate adopted its current name in 2008, when Nicolas Arnoux-Lachaux joined the family domaine. Its holdings across Vosne-Romanée and neighbouring appellations include several prestigious Premier and Grand Cru vineyards, and the domaine is particularly admired for wines that combine meticulous vineyard work with expressive, finely textured Burgundy character.
