Description
Domaine Antonin Guyon’s Gevrey-Chambertin La Justice is a beautifully balanced expression of one of Burgundy’s most celebrated villages. Sourced from a distinctive lieu-dit in the northern part of Gevrey-Chambertin, it shows the region’s hallmark depth and structure with a softer, more approachable edge thanks to the clay-rich soils on this side of the road. It’s a refined Pinot Noir that combines classic Burgundian elegance with immediate drinking pleasure.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin shows a bright, polished ruby color. The nose is lifted and aromatic, with small red strawberries, raspberries, and a delicate spicy note that emerges with air.
On the palate, the wine is graceful and well focused, with juicy red fruit at the core, gentle tannins, and a fresh, lively acidity that keeps everything in balance. As it opens, it gains complexity and length without losing its finesse. While already appealing now, it should continue to develop nicely over the next several years and can be enjoyed through 2028 under optimal conditions.
Production
La Justice is a named lieu-dit in the northern end of Gevrey-Chambertin, located on the eastern side of the Route Nationale, where the soils contain more clay than many surrounding parcels. This gives the wine a slightly rounder, softer profile than a more typical Gevrey-Chambertin. Domaine Antonin Guyon farms 2.58 hectares here, and the grapes are harvested by hand. Fermentation takes place in large open wooden vats over about 20 days, followed by 18 months of ageing in barrel, including 30% new oak.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with game birds, such as pheasant or quail, as well as veal, roast chicken, duck breast, and mild cheeses. Serve at 15–17°C. If opening it before 2020-style maturity, decant for 1–2 hours to help the aromas and texture fully раскрыться; otherwise, a brief aeration is enough for younger enjoyment.
Producer
Domaine Antonin Guyon is a respected Burgundy estate known for producing classic, terroir-driven wines from prized village and Premier Cru sites across the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits. The domaine has built a strong reputation for precision, balance, and thoughtful élevage, with a style that highlights purity of fruit and vineyard character. In Gevrey-Chambertin, their holdings in La Justice underscore the estate’s status as a significant and quality-focused producer in the region.
